Inquire into Captain spitting at journo: Madras High Court
Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the city police to conduct an inquiry into a complaint against DMDK leader Vijayakanth, which sought initiation of criminal proceedings against him for his alleged misbehavior while addressing the media in the city on December 27, 2015.
“Upon inquiry and the material gathered indicates commission of an offence, the police is directed to proceed in accordance with law. If no prima facie case is made out for registration of a case, the police is directed to pass appropriate orders on the complaint of the petitioner”, said Justice R. Subbiah while passing orders on a petition from G. Devarajan, who claimed to be a journalist.
In his petition, Devarajan alleged that Vijayakanth does not know how to behave in public.
He used derogatory words while addressing the media. His act of spitting at the journalist was condemnable. He spat at society and he was unfit to be the Leader of the Opposition.
Therefore, he lodged an online complaint on December 28, 2015 and sent a copy of the same by Speed Post to police authorities.
But no action was taken. Hence, he filed the present petition to direct the DGP, city police Commissioner and Deputy commissioner of Mylapore to register a case against Vijayakanth and take action as per law, he said.
