DMK gave nod for SVS college, says Anbumani Ramdoss

The college was given the approval in 2008 and the DMK government was in power in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: PMK's chief ministerial candidate Anbumani Ramdoss shifted the blame on to the previous DMK government for giving the approval to the controversial SVS medical college of Yoga and Naturopathy, saying the central government had no role in approving the college.

While rebutting the claims made by DMDK leader Vijayakanth and VCK leader Thirmavalan, he said in a statement on Friday that the allegations were baseless and were being spread by persons who are not aware of the procedures for approving medical colleges.

While naturopathy is one of the AYUSH systems, there is no central legislation to regulate it unlike the case of Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. With very few colleges and fewer students, the central government didn't set up any regulatory bodies for Naturopathy and Yoga colleges.

The Central government has no role in approving the colleges. With the no-objection certificate from the state government, anyone can start such a college, he said.

The college was given the approval in 2008 and the DMK government was in power in Tamil Nadu. Before giving the approval had the authorities verified whether the college had the basic facilities, the students wouldn't have suffered. So the then chief minister M.Karunanidhi and M.K. Stalin should explain how the college has got the approval, he said.

The affiliation to the college has to be renewed every year. Both the DMK and AIADMK governments renewed the affiliation. If the inspections had carried out in a proper manner, the college wouldn't have got the affiliation. So both DMK and AIADMK governments should take the blame for the death of three girls from the college, he demanded.

All the officials and ministers who helped the said college should be booked and arrested, he urged.
