Here are some people who made the year 2023 spectacular with their achievements

ISRO Chairman S Somanath was instrumental in the success of Chandrayaan 3 mission, putting in place a strategy aimed at eliminating failure. The mission’s success was also aided by Project Director P. Veeramuthuvel, Deputy Project Director Kalpana K, and Directors Nilesh M. Desai, S Unnikrishnan Nair, and M Sankaran.

Nandini Das

Indian-born author Nandini Das was awarded the coveted international British Academy Book Prize for Global Cultural Understanding in 2023 for her work
of non-fiction, Courting India: England, Mughal India, and the Origins of Empire. The award carries GBP 25,000.

Vijay Amritraj & Leander Paes

The first Asian men to be inducted into the prestigious International Tennis Hall of Fame are tennis giants Vijay Amritraj and Leander Paes, whose names will live on in the annals of the game. This accomplishment not only crowns their incredible careers but also moves India up to the 28th position in this esteemed institution.

Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju

The 25-year-old Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju is the first transgender physician in Karnataka, in addition to being a developer of digital material. Trinetra suffered years of emotional and physical abuse for posting pictures of herself before and during gender confirmation surgery (GCS). She not only overcame the humiliation but also started a conversation about how India should change its perspective on the transgender population. Her thoughts served as a vehicle for educating people about the reality of LGBTQ life in India.

Satpreet Singh

Satpreet Singh, based in California, received the Indian Achiever’s Award 2023 in recognition of his outstanding achievements. Satpreet, with four copyrights and one trademark in his name, developed a learning research methodology for knowledge for The Los Angeles Community Garden Council (LACGC).

Nita Ambani

The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) awarded the chairperson and founder of the Reliance Foundation Nita Ambani the 2023 USISPF Global Leadership Award for Philanthropy and Corporate Social Responsibility. She has been a leader in women’s empowerment, children’s education, and the promotion of Indian sports and culture.

Ektaa Kapoor & Vir Das

The International Emmy Directorate Award was given to eminent Indian television personality and co-founder of Balaji Telefilms, Ektaa Kapoor. In the
best comedy series category, Vir Das took home the prize for his Netflix stand-up special “Vir Das: Landing."

Safeena Husain

The first Indian woman to win the WISE Award for Education 2023, Safeena Husain is the founder of the non-profit organisation Educate Girls.

Salman Rushdie

The first-ever “Lifetime Disturbing the Peace Award” went to Salman Rushdie. The Upper East Side Vaclav Havel Centre in Manhattan gave him this honour.

Dr Sujit Roy

The NASA IMPACT Planet Award 2023 went to Dr. Sujit Roy, co-founder of BrainAlive. The coveted prize was an acknowledgment of his exceptional contribution to the Geospatial AI Foundation Model project.

Dr Hemachandran Ravikumar

Indian Confederation of Non-Government Organisations in partnership with the United Nations, awarded Dr. Hemachandran, the Karmaveer Chakra Medal and the Rex Karmaveer Global Fellowship in recognition of his contributions to R&D in Physical and bio-science and Microbiological Studies.

Nikhil Dey

The US government has named Indian social activist Nikhil Dey, an International Anti-Corruption Champion for 2023. This honour recognizes his decades-long dedication to uncovering corruption in public services and in empowering workers and peasants. He is co-founder of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS), an organisation based in Rajasthan that leads India’s efforts to combat corruption and promote transparency.

Arjun Deshpande

At the age of sixteen, Arjun started the “Generic Aadhaar” pharmaceutical company and has since grown it into an empire, while other young people his age are still figuring out what their vocations should be.
