Metro repairs: BMTC to run 260 buses

This shutdown is being done to fix the honeycomb' found on a concrete beam near Trinity station.

Bengaluru: With the Metro operations being suspended between M.G. Road and Indiranagar stations till December 30 to repair a pillar, BMTC has begun running feeder buses to transport metro passengers.

This shutdown is being done to fix the ‘honeycomb’ found on a concrete beam near Trinity station.

BMTC will run free metro feeder bus services between Cubbon Park and Baiyappanahalli stations and they will pass via Indiranagar metro station. They will ply from 8 pm to 11 pm on December 29 and 30.

BMRCL has hired BMTC buses on casual contract basis to ferry commuters between these two stations. As per BMTC records it will operate a total of 260 feeder buses between both the stations.

"The buses are running on a contract basis with BMRCL and metro passengers need not pay as their cards and tokens will be valid for travel. The BMRCL has already paid for the buses. Hope the commuters use this option and help prevent traffic jams," a senior BMTC official told Deccan Chronicle.

According to BMTC sources, BMRCL has paid Rs 18 lakh to run 260 feeder buses. The commuters, who need to travel from Mysore Road Station to Baiyappanahalli, will have to get off at the Cubbon Road or MG Road stations and board a feeder bus to reach Indiranagar station or go directly to Baiyappanahalli.

Meanwhile train services between Mysuru Road and M.G. Road and from Indiranagar to Baiyappanahalli will continue as usual with waiting periods, ranging from six to 15 minutes.
