Nellore: A man attempted to kill his daughter because of her alleged love affair with a Muslim boy, at Narasingaraopeta in Gudur on Friday.
The girl, Devasena, is a third year student at Adi Sankara Engineering College at Gudur. The boy has been identified as Javed, a final year degree student of SV Arts College, also in Gudur.
The father, Siddaiah, had warned Devasena against the affair several times before but the girl had not heeded his advice.
On Friday, Siddaiah found Javed talking to his daughter in the house when he returned home. Suspecting trouble, Javed took to his heels on noticing Siddaiah. Siddaiah then attacked his daughter with a knife that was lying on the floor. Devasena suffered grievous injuries on the head.
Devasena called Javed and informed him of the attack, and he rushed back to the house with his friends and shifted her to the government hospital. Doctors administered eight stitches on her head.
Devasena and Javed then went to the II Town police station in Gudur and lodged a complaint against victim’s father. Devasena claimed she and Javed were majors and that her father had rejected her request to marry Javed. She alleged that her father had planned the attack after she invited Javed to discuss the marriage.
Sub-inspector, Hussein has registered a case and is under investigation.
