Hyderabad: Fresh snatching bid puts police on edge
Hyderabad: The Rachakonda and Hyderabad police on Friday seized a motorcycle that is believed to be used by a duo who snatched gold chains from women in nine incidents over a 12-hour period over Wednesday and Thursday.
The police found that the vehicle was taken on rent from an agency in the Malakpet area of the city. The duo in all stole 30 tolas of gold in nine incidents.
The bike was spotted during vehicle checking at Bhavaninagar. The two youngsters who were riding the bike said they had taken it on rent from an agency in Malakpet.
Police teams rushed to the agency and questioned the owner and found that the suspected chain snatchers had taken the bike on rent a few days ago and had returned it. The suspects had given some identification proof before rending the bike, which the police is now examining.
The city police confirmed the detention of the bike. “We have some clues about the offenders and are working on it,” said an official from Hyderabad city police.
Home Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali said on Friday: “The footage recovered from the CCTV cameras showed the images of the snatchers and the police are making efforts to nab them. Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat has been asked to ensure the arrest of chain snatching offenders at the earliest.”
Meanwhile, the Rachakonda police have conducted massive cordon and search operations at Chaitanyapuri and LB Nagar, suspecting that the snatchers would have taken shelter there. Even as this was going on, another chain snatching was reported under Shameerpet police station limits in Cyberabad commissionerate on Friday evening.
At about 5.45 pm, two unidentified persons moving on a motorcycle snatched three-tola gold chain from a woman pedestrian at Usharpally village. The police said that B. Balamma, a native of Usharpally was walking home from an agriculture field when the bike-borne snatchers struck.
Police registered a case and is investigating to find out if the suspects from the two-day snatching spree were involved in the latest incident.
