Kerala: QV against Sreekumar, 9 others

The complaint has sought action against the guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Kochi: The Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court on Thursday ordered a quick verification against playback singer M.G. Sreekumar and nine others in connection with the construction of a building at Bolghatty in Kochi allegedly violating the Coastal Regulation Zone norms. The order was issued on a complaint filed by a Kalamassery native.

Apart from Sreekumar, QV proceedings will be initiated against K. Padmini, secretary in-charge of Mulavukkad panchayat, former secretaries P.M. Sheriff, Jessy Cherian, K.V. Manoj, P.S. Rajan, S. Krishnakumari, Salima, R. Meenkutty and assistant engineer K.P. Sainaba Beevi. The court ordered the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) SP to conduct a probe and file a report before February 19, 2018.

According to the complaint, Sreekumar bought 10 cents of land near the jetty of Bolhajtty Palace and constructed a 1,476 sq-ft building in 2011 in violation of the CRZ norms. The building permit was issued by K.P Sainaba Beevi, assistant engineer with Mulavukkad panchayat. The complaint pointed out that the panchayat secretaries failed to take any action despite the violation of norms. The panchayat, however, has not issued occupancy certificate for the building so far. The complaint has sought action against the guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
