Hyderabad: Many shamed for open peeing on first day of Seeti and Lathi'
Hyderabad: The ‘Seeti and Lathi’ campaign by GHMC to curb open defecation kicked off on Thursday and many were caught attending the natural calls in the public. At Tank Bund, men were caught for urinating in the public and were shooed away. A senior citizen was found urinating at Tank Bund and was shamed by female GHMC sanitation workers. Many violators were caught napping and many of them did not understand the reason behind the whistle.
As part of the campaign, workers were deployed in various wards across Greater Hyderabad to alert men urinating in the open. The campaign is conducted at a time when the national Swachh Bharat team is touring the city for annual assessment under the Swachh Bharat competition survey conducted in the metros in the country.
“Our intention behind Seeti and lathi is to curb open defecation. Sanitation workers are given additional task to keep a vigil on open urination. If spotted, they whistle and shoe them away by hitting lathi on ground,” an officer said.
