Hyderabad: Demolition drive at Gokul plots; 11 structures razed

With the police on toe, the GHMC pulled down 11 under-construction buildings, comprising three- and five-storied buildings.

Hyderabad: The GHMC West Zone has included around 50 illegal apartments and independent houses in Gokul Plots near Hafizpet in the demolition list. Eleven underconstruction buildings were knocked down in the first day of the drive on Thursday. With the police on toe, the GHMC pulled down 11 under-construction buildings, comprising three- and five-storied buildings.

It was found that Gokul Plots, sprawling 23 acres, where the market rate is Rs 40,000 per square yard, was erected on a disputed land. There are close to 25 independent houses which were built without the permission and the rest are apartments. After Ayyappa Society, this is the second biggest hub for illegal buildings, civic officials added.

Mr T. Venkanna, deputy municipal commissioner of the Chanda Nagar division, said, “Of the total 200 acres, 23 acres are disputed and cases are pending in the court. Owners purchased the land at a lower rate and began the construction, which started in 2016 and the GHMC turned a Nelson’s eye to it. In October this year, the owners were served legal notices. “The owners do not possess any document and the GHMC has not given the approval,” added Ms Hari Chandana Dasari, GHMC West Zone commissioner. The drive may last up to December 31.
