Thiruvananthapuram: Professor Shireen Moosvi president of Indian History Congress
Thiruvananthapuram: Professor Shireen Moosvi took over from Prof K. Paddayya as the new president of the Indian History Congress on Wednesday.
Ms Moosvi, a professor at the Aligarh Muslim University, is an expert in economic history of the Mughal Emperor. The name of Ms Moosvi was proposed by eminent historian Irfan Habib and seconded by C.P.N.Sinha.
In his introductory address, Prof Habib, pointed out that Ms Moosvi was one who could record the economic history of the Mughal emperor using the method of statistics. Professor Paddayya, an eminent archaeologist is Professor Emeritus at the Deccan College, University of Pune, known as the Mecca of Indian Archaeologists, of which he has also been the Director.
Kanad Sinha won the Professor V.K. Thakur Memorial Prize for his paper when the bhuapati sought the gopati’s wealth: Locating the Mahabharatha economy, whereas Suparna Sengupta won Prof P.S. Gupta Memorial prize for his paper 'Imperial Scandal: Political Prisoners in Andaman Penal Colony.
