Kerala NSS volunteers conduct camp for tribal children
Malappuram: In an effort to inspire tribal children to attend school regularly, around 50 students and teachers of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Edakkara, have embarked on a mission to help them learn letters.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers of the school conducted inspirational camps for children at Pallikuthu, Valanodi, Nariyampoyil tribal colonies adjacent to Nilambur forests. "The camps were primarily meant to inspire the tribal children who did not go to school to pursue education. We tried to turn them up to pursue formal education and made them realise its possibilities," said Sajeesh M. the coordinator of the NSS unit.
The student volunteers conducted the camp as part of Scheduled Tribe Empowerment Programme (STEP), a continuing education programme meant for the tribal children launched by the PTA committee of the Govt. UP School, Pallikuthu.
"Besides inspiring the tribal children, our students have also learnt much from brilliant tribal children,” Mr Sajeesh said.
