TRS, MIM don’t want to develop Old City: Congress

Hyderabad: Congress leaders on Monday accused the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of cheating Old City residents by not implementing the proposed 5.5-km Metro Rail between Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) and Falaknuma.

Terming debates about the same in the Assembly by the two parties an eyewash, former minister Shabbir Ali claimed the TRS and AIMIM wanted the Old City to remain backward.

“Akbaruddin Owaisi raises the issue of delay in the Assembly and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao or his son and minister K.T. Rama Rao gives an assurance that the works would be hastened. Once the Assembly session is over, they forget about it. This has happened at least 20 times,” he said in a media statement.

PCC senior vice-president G. Niranjan told Deccan Chronicle: “Even the survey taken up by Metro authorities was not allowed on this route. Now, the cost has escalated to Rs 2,000 crore and L&T is not ready to take up new works. If Asad is serious and his party is friendly with the TRS, he should press for demand that the foundation be laid for Old City's Metro along with Airport Express Corridor by the CM on December 9.”
