Cyclone may hit Andhra Pradesh, heavy rains from Dec 3

The intensity of the rains would be more in north coastal Andhra and south Odisha from December 3 to December 5

Viahakhapatanam: A cyclonic storm may form over the Bay of Bengal in the first week of December. Under its influence, heavy rainfall is expected from December 3 to 5 over south Odisha and North Coastal Andhra, the weatherman said.

The director general of IMD, Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said a low pressure area would be formed over South Andaman Sea by November 30, move in a west northwest direction and reach West Central Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a depression by December 2.

“We have predicted that a disturbance will occur in the Bay of Bengal. After formation of a low pressure, we can predict the formation of a cyclone,’’ he said.

He said the intensity of the rains would be more in north coastal Andhra and south Odisha from December 3 to December 5 but south Andhra might be spared.

If it turns into a cyclone, it will be named Jawad. Sea conditions will remain rough to very rough. There will be high waves in the sea and at the same time, the speed of the winds will also be very high. Wind speed can be 60 to 70 km per hour; and in some places, winds are also likely to blow at a speed of 80 to 90km.

The sky was already overcast over north Andhra and there was a slight drop in the temperature
