Uddhav quits from saamana

The responsibility will now be held by party leader Sanjay Raut, who has been the executive editor of the newspaper for 30 years.

Mumbai: After becoming the head of the state, Uddhav Thackeray has quit as the editor-in-chief of Shiv Sena mouthpiece, Saamana. The responsibility will now be held by party leader Sanjay Raut, who has been the executive editor of the newspaper for 30 years.

Hereon, Uddhav’s name will not be mentioned in the credit line as editor-in-chief of the Sena daily.

Uddhav began his political journey as the editor of Saamana when he used to take potshots at the then Sena CM, Narayan Rane, in 1999. This led to a rift between the two and Rane was eventually expelled from the party.

Meanwhile, Sena MP Sanjay Raut has been extremely vocal in the editorials, many a time courting controversy due to the same. His recent editorials have targeted the BJP for allegedly breaking its pre-poll promise of 50:50 power-sharing and rotation of the CM’s post.

In his last edition of Saamana as editor-in-chief, Uddhav on Thursday acknowledged NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s efforts in taking the Sena-NCP-Congress alliance forward.
