Namakkal: At Kattanampatti village panchayat near Rasipuram in Namakkal district, it was a moving spectacle as a 75-year-old woman prostrated before the Tamil Nadu Social Welfare minister, Dr Saroja and encircled her arms around the minister’s feet, pleading that her old age pension be cleared.
At a public grievances camp in the village on Wednesday, people were overawed as the helpless woman, Muthammal was in tears and urged for the release of her pension. She had been waiting in the queue for quite some time.
A visibly touched Dr Saroja, who was receiving petitions from the people under the Chief Minister’s special grievances camp programme, consoled the elderly woman and assured that her pension papers will be cleared.
