Thiruvananthapuram: KM Shaji returns to assembly
Thiruvananthapuram: IUML MLA K.M. Shaji returned to the Assembly on Wednesday after the Supreme Court allowed him to take part in the house proceedings without voting rights and salary.
Mr Shaji was disqualified by the High Court for making communal remarks during 2016 Assembly polls.
Mr Shaji, who was in Delhi, rushed to the city by flight to attend the session.
In the wake of the interim order by the Supreme Court, Shaji's lawyer Haris Beeran had sent a letter to assembly secretary V.K. Babuprakash asking him to withdraw the notification of disqualification of Shaji and issue a new notification allowing his entry into the house. A copy of the apex court order too has been sent to him.
Mr Shaji, while taking to mediapersons, criticised Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan for playing politics over the issue. "The Speaker showed undue haste in removing my name from the register'', Mr Shaji said.
Meanwhile, Sreeramakrishnan expressed his displeasure over bringing speaker and legislative secretariat into the controversy. ''The notification on disqualification of Mr Shaji was issued as per norms. The rulings of the speaker in the assembly are also as per norms. It is not correct to accuse political motives behind the actions of the speaker, Mr Sreeramakrishnan told reporters.
