Suryapet: Mom latches door, girl dies of burns
Hyderabad: One girl suffered severe burns while another died after their mother left home by latching the door from outside to attend nature’s call on Wednesday morning in Suryapet district.
The kids were sleeping next to the gas stove on which rice was cooking. The blanket fell on stove leading to death of an 8-year-old girl and leaving the 10-year-old critical. While the victims maintain that the mother was out to attend to nature’s call, police officials claim that the mother had gone to bathe and her husband had left for work.
The police have identified the victim’s family as G. Galaiah, the father, G. Varalakshmi, the mother and children G. Maheshwari, 10, and G. Sree Lakshmi, 8.
According to the police, the family were living in a two room house. The children used to sleep in one room which was also used as the kitchen. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle Superintendent of police, Suryapet, R. Venkateswarlu, said, “One of the children might have accidentally turned towards the stove resulting in bedsheet falling on the stove. When the mother returned, she noticed the fire and the smoke filled house. As it was early in the morning, they did not have water to douse the fire. Sree Lakshmi was declared brought dead and Maheshwari sustained 60 per cent burns and is in a critical condition.”
