Madras high court restrains internet service providers from airing 2.0

Originally, the judge had restrained BSNL and 36 other internet service providers from airing the film.

Chennai: The Madras high court has restrained over 12,500 internet service providers from airing Superstar Rajinikant starrer 2.0, scheduled to be released on November 29.

Justice M.Sunder granted the interim injunction on an application arising out of a suit filed by Neelakantanarayan, the authorized signatory of Lyca Productions Private Limited.

Originally, the judge had restrained BSNL and 36 other internet service providers from airing the film. On Wednesday Vijayan Subramanian filed another application to restrain tamilrockers.in.

He submitted that when tamilrockers.in was blocked, these 12,500 non-complaint websites merely create mirror websites by changing an insignificant part of URL like tamilrockers.in or any other extension and were therefore able to reinstate the infringing material with minimal effort.

In his application, Neelakantanarayan submitted that the movie, directed by Shankar, was produced by spending several crores of rupees. Besides Superstar, famous Hindi actor Akshay Kumar has been acting in the main villain role.

If the internet service providers were permitted to air the film, the same would cause irreparable loss and damage to the producer, he added.
