Hyderabad High Court directs police to produce missing transgender

The counsel for the government sought time to place the details of the case, but the bench rejected.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday directed the Hyderabad City Police to produce Chandramukhi Muvvala, the transgender candidate from Bahujan Left Front party from Goshamahal Assembly constituency, by 10.15 am on Thursday before the court.

A division bench comprising Justice Raghvendra Chauhan and Justice M. Satyanarayana Murthy was dealing with a habeas corpus petition by the mother of Chandramukhi moved the lunch motion seeking directions to the police to produce Chandramukhi before the court who has been missing since November 27.

The petitioner submitted that Chandramukhi has been fighting for the rights of transgenders and one of the rowdy sheeters in the area had threatened Chandramukhi and in this back ground they are suspecting that the local rowdy elements might have kidnapped Chandramukhi.

The counsel for the government sought time to place the details of the case, but the bench rejected stating that the missing person is a candidate contesting the elections and it is the responsibility of the police to protect the candidate.

The High Court bench, taking serious note, directed the Hyderabad City Police to trace Chandramukhi and produce before it by Thursday morning.
