Chennai: Special team police team formed to nab cop, woman
Chennai: The Chennai police on Wednesday set up a special team to nab one of their own head constables and a woman he had been working with in connection with a prostitution racket.
The head constable of CMBT police station, identified as Parthiban had rented out a house in Nehru Street on Razack Garden Road, Aminjikarai for a woman to use for sex work which he would then 'raid' and extort money from the clients, police sources had said.
The incident came to light when one of the clients, a cab driver identified as Vishwanathan threatened the sex worker after being duped by the duo.
The woman alerted the police past midnight claiming that she was receiving threat calls from Vishwanathan, whom she had solicited earlier that night from Anna Arch.
The police then traced Vishwanathan, who narrated his version of the story. He told them that he had paid the constable- Parthiban Rs 1300 but later called the sex worker again after he suspected foul play.
The Aminjikarai police then combed through the woman's phone only to find that she had contacted the head constable from CMBT police station multiple times. After questioning her several times, the woman admitted to being part of the scam.
It is then that the police knew of the involvement of the policeman who had conducted several such 'raids' and extorted money from customers.
Based on the complaint by Viswanathan, the Aminjikarai police have registered a case of waylaid, prostitution and threat to murder on both the woman and Parthiban and are looking for them.
The woman was arrested on the same day and has been detained. The hunt is still on for Parthiban.
