2 youth forced to remove clothes in police station: Cop to probe case

Based on a newspaper report SHRC judge D. Jayachandran initiated suo moto proceedings and ordered the commissioner to conduct an inquiry.

Chennai: State Human Rights Commission has directed Chennai police commissioner to conduct inquiry relating to incident of forcing two youths to remove their clothes in Thiruverkadu police station two days ago. Based on a newspaper report SHRC judge D. Jayachandran initiated suo moto proceedings and ordered the commissioner to conduct an inquiry.

According to the report, Rajkumar, 27, and Rajesh were summoned to the police station in connection with an assault case two days ago. It was alleged that SI Kumaran forced them to remove their clothes and made them remain naked in the police station. During the probe Kumaran reportedly assaulted them. Learning this, a large number of local residents had assembled before the police station and raised slogans against the cops. Judge D Jayachandran on Wednesday asked the city police commissioner whether action on the part of SI Kumaran violated human rights of the youths and whether any action was initiated against Kumaran.The judge directed the commissioner to conduct and inquiry and file a report to the commission in four weeks.
