Vendors in fish mart should follow norms: Guntur Municipal Corporation

Unhygienic conditions will lead to spread of communicable disease.

GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation commissioner Ch. Anuradha directed the traders selling chicken, mutton and fish at Venlock market in Guntur city to follow the norms strictly and to maintain hygienic conditions in the market. The GMC commissioner held a meeting with the traders and officials of the legal metrology, public health, engineering and other departments in Guntur on Tuesday.

She said that unhygienic conditions in the market would lead to spread of communicable diseases. She directed the traders not to litter on the road and warned of serious action against those violating the norms. Ms Anuradha said slaughtering in the shops is against the norms and asked the vendors to get it done in the abattoir.

She directed the fish vendors not to sell fish and prawns on the walking path in the market. At the same time, she also promised to resolve the drainage problem in the market. She also assured the vendors about providing a toilet and drinking water facility in the market. She warned vendors failing to pay rent for the GMC shops they have taken, of holding auction again. Legal metrology additional director A. Krishna Chaitanya directed the traders to their weighing machines checked by the officials and display the certificates in the shops without fail.
