A city which has over 65 lakh vehicles plying every day on the roads needs better enforcement, implementation of traffic rules and infrastructure to bring in discipline in parking. Technology is the answer to curbing roadside parking but the pre-paid parking system exists only in a few spots. Imp lementing this across the city will make a difference. However, there have been no recent technological advances to help us hone in on the problem.
Concerned departments should look into this and consider working on a mobile app, for instance, to help motororists check the availability of parking spaces and plan travel time accordingly. This will save commuters from dealing with the heavy flow of vehicles at a few concentrated spots.
There are lakhs of vehicles on the road obstructing fellow motorists by parking haphazardly and obstructing their path. There should be stricter enforcement of rules and authorities should ensure that vehicles are given designated spots like parking bays, which is a long term solution to the problem.
Traffic police are often seen penalising drivers for road side parking and this now extends to BMTC drivers too, if they are found stopping before or after the stop itself. Strong enforcement and stricter penalties will help matters.
