Skills vital for successful entrepreneurship: US Consul
Chennai: Skills are vital for entrepreneurship and growing business and in a digital era, marked by rapid pace in innovation, skills form the core factor in ecosystem for successful entrepreneurship, says Robert Burgess, US Consul General, Chennai.
The Consul General who inaugurated a panel discussion attended by a large number of women entrepreneurs, coinciding with the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2017 underway in Hyderabad (till Nov.30), said the session in Chennai gives an opportunity for budding entrepreneurs, particularly women, to interact with mentors.
"In India, it's amazing that women entrepreneurs work with expertise to support entrepreneurship ecosystems bringing together opportunities in mentoring", he remarked and deplored that women's participation in economy, even in the world economies, is at lower level compared to men's involvement.
"We are very excited to host the programme at IIT (M) here. It coincides with the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad. It includes a master class, pitch training session, panel discussion and networking dinner and features successful women entrepreneurs from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry", he said. The Chennai session, being held under the joint auspices of the US Consulate General in Chennai and Care Earth Trust, would provide an opportunity for the participants to interact with their mentors.
"We will support entrepreneurship with a number of programmes like discussions, round table sponsored mentorship and will follow it up with a programme on diversity in work place emphasising managing diversity and adding value, in December", Mr. Burgess added.
The theme of this year's summit is: women first and prosperity for all. The event is being attended by emerging and established entrepreneurs, investors, economists and representatives from think tank, said Alexis Wolff, Information Officer, U.S. Consulate General, Chennai.
Lauren Lovelace, Consul for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, moderated the panel discussion on opportunities and challenges for women entrepreneurs in the region.
