Kurnool: Weavers walk with Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy

With Butta Renuka's exit from party, villagers not sure what to do.

KURNOOL: YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday lashed out at AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for reneging over his promises made to people before the election saying that the Chief Minister been a failure in providing progress. He was speaking at Gonegandla village in Yemmiganur constituency in Kurnool district on the 20th day of his Praja Sankalpa Yatra.

Yemmiganur, the town of weavers, is the citadel of Kurnool MP Butta Renuka. With the shifting of loyalties by Renuka, the people of Yemmiganur appear to be confused on extending support to Jagan, said a local leader. "We have been supporting YSRCP because of Butta Renuka. Now our leader is not there in that party and we do not know how to extend support to Jagan. We are simply walking along with the yatra undecided, he added.

Underlining the need to practice what one preaches, Naidu asked political leaders to stand as examples of rectitude to the public. On the question of the troubles of cotton farmers who had incurred enormous losses due to crop failure, Jagan said that minimum support price should be assured to cotton growers. He also said that insurance coverage should be made effective for crop failures.

Earlier, the Leader of the Opposition on Tuesday paid rich tributes to social reformer and a staunch advocate of social equality Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. Before continuing his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Jagan offered floral tributes to Mahatma Phule and recalled the contribution of the great reformer in the fight against social discrimination and superstitions. He said Phule spent his life to ensure social equality. He said Phule strove for a caste-less society.

"Paying tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Govindrao Phule garu, who championed the cause of backward communities," YS Jagan tweeted. The YSRC chief was accorded a grand welcome by his supporters and villagers at H. Kairavadi of Yemmiga-nur constituency. Jagan commenced his Praja Sankalpa Yatra from Puttapasam and reached Kairavadi. People from the village walked with the YSRCP chief. They poured out their woes before Jagan and he assured them that he would solve their problems once the government is formed.
