Hyderabad: 5 of a family injured in LPG explosion

Around 5am on Tuesday, they noticed small sparks from the cables connected to mobile charger followed by a loud explosion.

Hyderabad: As many as five members of a family including a three-year-old boy suffered burns in a gas explosion due to the leakage of an LPG gas cylinder in Medipally in the wee hours of Tuesday. Police suspect that the blowout occurred as the cylinder and a mobile phone which was kept for charging were very close and sparks from the mobile due to loose contact in the cables led to the fire.

According to police, Mohammad Feroz, 26, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, had migrated to Hyderabad three years ago along with his wife Shaherunnisa, son Shahneed, mother Aburunnisa and brother. Feroz was into POP business and was eng-aged in the works at the underconstruction buildings in the surroundings.

On Monday night, before sleeping, Feroz had kept his mobile for charging very close to the LPG cylinder.

Around 5am on Tuesday, they noticed small sparks from the cables connected to mobile charger followed by a loud explosion. All the residents of the house were in deep slumber and as a result could not escape the fire.

Feroz’s mother, wife, brother and son suffered burns on head and hands, while Feroz escaped with minor burns.

Aburunnisa’s condition is said to be critical, others are out of danger and are under observation, the police said.

A case is being registered and the samples from the spot were sent for forensic analysis, said investigating officials.
