Boy ends life, family blames harassment' by teacher
Chennai: A 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide in his house near here, due to ‘harassment’ by his school teacher over poor academic performance, police said on Tuesday.
The family of the class 12 student has alleged harassment by one of his school teachers.
The victim was said to be upset after being allegedly abused by the teacher, over his poor academic performance and not trimming his hair, the family members said, adding, the boy hanged himself in his house near Karumathampatti last night, police said.
A case under IPC section 306 (abetting suicide) was registered against the teacher and further investigations were on, they said, adding that the Education department officials are probing into the incident.
On receiving information from the members of the public, Karumathampatty police recovered the body of the deceased student and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital here for post-mortem.
Following a complaint by Annamalaisamy, a welding shop owner and father of the boy, police have registered a case against a chemistry teacher of the school and have begun investigations.
Annamalaisamy told Deccan Chronicle: “basically my son is good in studies; he scored 470 marks out of 500 in 10th public exam, but most of the private schools deploy inefficient teachers for low salaries despite getting more fees from the parents and ultimately blame the student.” he said.
It might be recalled that recently four girl students of a government school in Vellore district had on November 24 committed suicide by jumping into a well after being allegedly chided by their teachers for not being attentive in class. With bank procedures and was appearing confused when the duo approached him and offered to help him.
“He trusted them as the duo spoke in Hindi and he didn’t suspect them. However, they diverted his attention and fled with the cash,” said a police officer.
Imalal filed a complaint with the Tondiarpet police. Police teams perused the CCTV footage from the bank and zeroed in on the suspect.
Going through the details of the phone calls made from the bank, they closed in on the suspect's phone number and tracked them, police sources said.
They were rounded up at their hideout in Anupampattu near Ponneri. The suspects were identified as A Pandit Kumar (22) and B Surendar Sunny (33).
Investigations revealed that the duo have been living in the city for the past three years and used to target migrant labourers in bank and steal cash from them.
They were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. They were rounded up at their hideout in Anupampattu near Ponneri.
