Vijayawada: Lawyers sore over fine outside court

As construction work is going on in the court complex, lawyers and visitors are forced to park their vehicles on the road outside.

VIJAYAWADA: Lack of ample parking space in the Vijayawada court complex has led to some tense moments and heated exchanges between traffic cops and lawyers on Monday. As construction work is going on in the court complex, lawyers and visitors are forced to park their vehicles on the road outside the complex. Gopalreddy Road and Prakasam are witnessing heavy vehicular accumulation on both sides of the court complex resulting in occasional traffic jams.

As the CM’s camp office is adjacent to the court complex, traffic police has raised concerns over the parking in the street. The Bezawada Bar Association and traffic police agreed upon a solution to park the vehicles alongside of the compound wall while taking care not to obstruct the traffic flow. However, not everyone has civic sense and if someone lacking civility parks his vehicle haphazardly, the occasional traffic snarl is the result.

On Monday, the traffic police issued challans to a few persons who parked their vehicles blocking the road. This led to the Bar Association members objecting. They even staged a protest. Bezawada Bar Association president Ch. Manmadha Rao alleged that the police was acting unilaterally. “There is no space in the court complex as construction activity is going on,” he pointed out.

Traffic deputy commissioner of police Kranti Rana Tata rushed to the spot and pacified the lawyers. He assured them that not all the vehicles were issued challans but only those which were parked irregularly. “This is a crucial and busy junction. The irregular parking causing is problems to commuters and this needs to be regulated,” Mr Tata said and added, “We will discuss the issue with Bar Association and arrive at a solution.”
