State to go cashless, says Assam Finance Minister

Sarma told reporters that digital road map would be ready in next ten days.

Guwahati: Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma here on Monday said that his government was preparing a digital action plan to make entire transaction of the state government cashless.

Informing that in the first phase they intend to reduce the transactions in cash, Mr Sarma told reporters that digital road map would be ready in next ten days. “We are committed to minimise the cash handlings in the state government departments,” said Mr Sarma.

Mr Sarma, who announced that his government has accepted the recommendation of the pay commission in- principle, said that the same would be implemented by April next year. He said that it will put an additional burden of Rs 4,000 crore on the state exchequer.

Mr Sarma said that the pay commission has suggested to increase the minimum pay scale of the state government employee from Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,900. Informing that his government intends to implement it from April next, Mr Sarma said that commission has also recommended huge benefit for the retired employee and their family members.
