People will punish PM for snatching their bread and butter: Dinesh Gundu Rao
Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) observed an ‘Aarkrosh Divas’ on Monday to protest the demonetisation of higher denomination currency by the Centre and its working president, Dinesh Gundu Rao, warned that the poor and farmers would not forgive Prime Minster Narendra Modi for the hardship the move has caused them.
“People will punish the Prime Minister for snatching their bread and butter. Demonetisation has made the lives of the poor miserable. The BJP government at the Centre has pushed the country’s development back by 10 years,” Mr. Gundu Rao said.
Youth Congress president, Rizwan Arshad demanded that the Union government give Rs one crore compensation to the 85 families, who had lost their loved ones following demonetisation.
In a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee, the KPCC requested him to direct the Centre to roll back its decision on demonetising the higher denomination currency and decried the Prime Minister’s claim that 94 per cent of the people supported it when nearly four lakh had lost their jobs as a result of it and there was distress among the poor and farmers.
As a mark of protest the Congress later led a procession from Town Hall to Mysuru Bank Circle and submitted a memorandum to the Bengaluru urban district Deputy Commissioner, explaining the hardship caused to the small vendors and the people following the ban on the old Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes.
Nearly 2000 Congress workers of Central Bengaluru participated in the rally and burned the effigies of Mr Modi and prominent industrialists of the country.
Meanwhile, as a counter to Aakrosh Divas, the state BJP organised a Sambram Divas, distributing sweets and buttermilk to traders across the city. BJP workers also gave sweets to people waiting in queues before banks and post offices in the city.
BJP state president, B.S.Yeddyurappa called the Aakrosh Divas a “ flop show” as there was no response from the people, who opened their shops and establishments as usual and educational institutions too functioned as always.
