No impact of 'Bharat Bandh' in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: There was no impact in Hyderabad on Monday of the Bharat Bandh call given by the Opposition parties against the demonetisation.
Opposition parties, including the Left, had called for the bandh, which was supported by the Congress, YSRC etc. The Congress had termed Monday as “Akrosh Divas”, opposing the Union government’s decision of demonetisation.
From the morning, the police had made bandobast and detained Opposition leaders. Congress leaders were arrested at RBI in Gun Foundry and a few trade union leaders, along with Left leaders, were arrested by the Chickadapally police at RTC crossroads while holding a rally from Sundhraraiah Vignana Kendram to Indira Park.
Except for the agitations, human chains, effigy burning and rallies, no bandh was observed in the city with business establishments, autos, buses and rails operating as usual.
The bandh, however, was observed partially in a few districts like Bhadradri, Khammam and parts of Karimnagar district. In Sattupally division of Khammam district, traders closed shops and commercial establishments did so voluntarily. Massive hartals were observed in Vyra, Pinapaka and Aswaraopet in Bhadradri district by Opposition parties and trade unions. However, the RTC managed to run its services with the help of the police.
There was no impact of the bandh in Medak and Sangareddy districts.
Central zone DCP Mr Joel Davis said that all precautions had been taken in view of the bandh on Monday. “We had deployed additional forces at RBI, Abids, Chikkadapally, Dharna Chowk and other places,” he said.
Chikkadapally and Ramgopalpet ACPs informed the media that a few leaders were arrested under Section 151 of CrPC and later released.
Besides the Central zone, the Congress held protest programmes and massive rallies across the GHMC limits. A Congress worker tonsured his head in front of Andhra Bank in Dilsukhnagar.
