Modi's castles in the air lack foundation: Uttam Kumar Reddy

Congress workers gathered there burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi shouting slogans.

Hyderabad: Senior Congress leaders and activists, led by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Reserve Bank of India’s regional office here, in protest against the hardships and inconvenience caused to the public due to lack of planning before demonetising high value currency notes. However, the police foiled the Congress leaders’ bid to form a human chain as announced, but allowed them to stage the demonstration outside the RBI branch for some time.

Congress workers gathered there burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi shouting slogans. They later submitted a memorandum to the RBI’s regional director requesting steps to ease the cash flow as crores of common people were facing hardships.

Telangana Congress leaders said that the party workers took out massive rallies, organised dharnas and burnt effigies of Modi across the state as part of the Akrosh Divas.

In their memorandum to RBI regional director R.N. Das, Congress leaders demanded sufficient currency is made available 24x7 in ATMs and banks. They demanded that the government utilise the services of cooperative banks to conduct currency exchange transactions.

The Congress leaders also demanded adequate compensation to the families of the 70-plus people who lost their lives in the aftermath of the sudden demonetisation and standing in lengthy queues.

Leaders of the Opposition K. Jana Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir, TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, former PCC presidents V. Hanumantha Rao and Ponnala Lakshmaiah, MLCs Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and Santosh Kumar, MLA A. Sampath Kumar, former Union minister Sarve Satyanarayana, former ministers P. Sabitha Indira Reddy and Danam Nagender, NDMA former vice-chairman Marri Sashidhar Reddy and other senior leaders participated in the protest near RBI.
