Funds wasted on CM's camp office: TJAC
Hyderabad: Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof. M. Kodandaram on Monday accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of wasting huge public funds on a new palatial bungalow.
“Beliefs are personal. We don’t question them. But due to certain belief, if one doesn’t like a building or place, there are other government buildings. But one cannot construct a bungalow on an eight acre site spending Rs 50 crore of public money,” the TJAC chief said.
He said that the CM’s camp office was new and had all modern facilities, including a studio, where he could interact with people.
“When you have a good building with all facilities, I feel it’s unnecessary to construct a new one. An additional block could have been added. There is sufficient land. But was it necessary to construct a new building on eight acres spending Rs 50 crore,” Prof. Kodandaram asked.
He added, “When such a palatial building could be constructed in just one year, why not 2BHK houses? In several villages, houses were pulled down for construction of 2BHK houses, but work is yet to take off even though it’s been over two years.”
Prof Kodandaram said priorities were important. “If there are surplus funds, another building or two could be constructed. We don’t have any objection. We are misplacing priorities.” He said a meeting of displaced persons under various projects will be held here on November 30.
“What we found during our tours is that the government is not bothered to listen to farmers’ woes. It’s trying to take over lands forcibly, which is not correct. Firstly, one has to ponder whether such huge tracts of lands are required? Is the project necessary? If land is required, how to go about acquiring it? How to compensate, convince farmers without causing trouble to them? There should be proper guidelines” he said.
