NIA Takes Control of Kalamassery Blast Probe; Security Measures Tightened

NIA officers are working in collaboration with local police, and are examining the CCTV footage from in and around the blast area

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), India's premier counter-terrorism law enforcement agency, has assumed control of the investigation into the Kalamassery blasts in Kochi on Sunday.

Kalamassery near Kochi has been witness to Muslim radical activity including PFI in the past.

As the nation grapples with the shocking incident, authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a thorough investigation and security measures have been heightened in the region.

NIA officers are working in collaboration with local police, and are rigorously examining the CCTV camera footage from in and around the Zamrah International Convention Centre area, where the blasts occurred.

In response to the security concerns raised by the incident, extensive vehicle checks have been initiated in Ernakulam district, particularly focusing on sensitive areas. Police presence and surveillance have been intensified.

Checks are being done at transportation hubs, including railway stations, airports, and bus terminals in the district.

The incident comes a day after former Hamas leader Khaled Mashal addressed a gathering in Malappuram in north Kerala virtually and exhorted the Jamait-e-Islami activists to take action against the non-believers.
