Govt unmoved over RTC workers’ plight

Ashwathama Reddy said that the RTC JAC is planning to visit all the districts to seek support.

Hyderabad: With the month-end nearing and the strike entering the 26th day, the striking RTC employees are more concerned than ever about how they will meet their expenses. The state government is unmoved by the plight of the employees, who are also fighting in the High Court to get their demands met.

The lack of wages for two months has made it difficult for workers to support their families, and this has driven some to commit suicide, while others are at risk of doing likewise.

As part of the agitation, the workers have staged protests in front of the Collectorates in all the districts and on Monday given their representations to the collectors.

The RTC Joint Action Committee is making arrangements to hold ‘Sakala Janula Samme Bheri’ on October 30 at Saroornagar stadium. The unions do not have clarity on what to do from November 1, to achieve their demands.

They don’t know whether they should go to Delhi and meet the PM and other ministers, and where this strike would lead. RTC JAC convener Ashwathama Reddy said that the demands of the unions are very fair and will be achieved soon. He urged the employees not to lose confidence, but to be bold.
