Cops shift CPI leader to NIMS

Mr Rao, 71, insisted on continuing his indefinite fast but doctors have advised him against it, a doctor said his condition was stable.

Hyderabad: The police on Monday shifted CPI leader, Kunamaneni Sambasiva Rao, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike from October 26, to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences.

He was fasting at the party headquarters Maqdoom Bhavan demanding reinstatement of the 48,000 RTC workers sacked en masse for striking.

At the hospital, Mr Rao, 71, insisted on continuing his indefinite fast but doctors have advised him against it, a doctor said his condition was stable.

The CPI leader accused the Chief Minister of trying to manage the strike by using the police even as some of the employees were committing suicide or dying due to shock or depression.

He said the CM cannot leave the RTC employees high and dry after taking their support during the Telangana statehood movement.

CPI leader S. Sudhakar Reddy said, “Till the sacked RTC employees are not taken back on job and their demands not conceded, the strike will continue. CPI will work towards intensifying the strike towards fulfilment of the workers’ demands,” he stated.
