Perambalur: Even as Himalayan efforts by multiple agencies and with aid of heavy machinery are on for the past four days to rescue the toddler Sujith Wilson from a borewell pit at Nadukattupalli village near Manaparai in Tamil Nadu's Tiruchirappalli district, a similar fate befell a cat that accidentally fell into a well in neighbouring Perambalur district.
But the little animal was saved by its proverbial luck and true to the adage that a cat has nine lives.
The district fire and rescue services department personnel managed to bale out a cat after it accidentally fell into a well at Madhanagopalapuram near Perambalur on Monday, sources told DC over telephone.
The well, located in the house of one Meenakshisundaram, who heard the cries of the cat for more than two hours, finally noticed that the cat had fallen into the well.
The Good Samaritan, with the help of neighbors attempted to immediately pull up the cat in several ways, but his efforts became vain.
Finally, an exasperated Meenakshisundaram alerted the fire and rescue department, who in turn deputed a team of firemen led by station fire officer T. Murugan, who rushed to the spot, got into the well and successfully rescued the cat.
There are two morals to this folktale like story: “every life is precious,” and “where there is a will, there is a way,” mused a neighbour of Meenakshisundaram....
