Hyderabad: Thieves thrive on outskirts in absence of CCTV system
Hyderabad: Lack of electronic surveillance at residential colonies makes it tough for the police in Hyderabad to investigate the cases of burglaries taking place in gated communities located on the city outskirts.
In a burglary that took place at Dammaiguda in Jawaharnagar on Saturday, lack of surveillance cameras made the detective teams of Rachakonda run on their toes to find the clues.
K. Srinivas, a businessman along with his family lives in Khushi Garden, a gated community in Dammaiguda under Jawaharnagar police station limits. The family runs two hotels in Cherlapally area. At around 9.30 am on Saturday, the family members of Srinivas left for work. When they returned at 10.30 pm, they found that the lock of the house was broken. Srinivas immediately alerted the Jawaharnagar police who along with the clues team and dog squad inspected the house and found that the theft involved habitual offenders. Srinivas complained that Rs 2.5 lakh cash in a small almirah and gold ornaments weighing about 28.5 tolas kept in another almirah were stolen.
Jawaharnagar detective inspector D Narsing Rao said “It was purely a habitual offender, who stole the articles from Srinivas’s home. There are no CCTV cameras installed in the gated community and they did not even engage a security guard. The neighbouring areas also do not have cameras installed. Teams are working on the available clues to nab the offenders.”
