Siddaramaiah to skip PM function in Bidar

He told the media here on Saturday that officers of Indian Railways invited him for the inaugural at the eleventh hour.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he would skip inauguration of the Bidar-Kalaburgi railway line project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bidar on Sunday because the invitation reached him a tad too late.

He told the media here on Saturday that officers of Indian Railways invited him for the inaugural at the eleventh hour. Besides, they did not discuss the schedule of the function with representatives of the state government though Karnataka had contributed 50 per cent of the '1,542 crore project. Land for the 107 km Bidar-Kalaburgi link was given free to facilitate comprehensive development of Hyderabad-Karnataka region, he added.

The chief minister said industries minister R.V. Deshpande would attend the inaugural on behalf of the state government. According to the schedule, Modi would dedicate the new railway project to the nation in Bidar on Sunday evening.
