Edappadi Palaniswami inaugurates state highways' civic infra work, Thanjai bypass

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday inaugurated civic infrastructure work taken up at a total cost of Rs 73 crore by state highways. Through video conferencing, he also declared open the second section of Thanjavur bypass constructed at a cost of Rs 42 crore. The new bypass highway measuring 5.2 km will reduce the traffic and save time for long distance vehicles connecting Thanjavur with Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kumbakonam, Pudukottai and Tiruchy. The bypass will save at least 5 to 10 minutes for heavy vehicles plying between Thanjavur and its nearby junctions. The new road will also alleviate the traffic bottlenecks in Thanjavur and Kumbakonam areas.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a road overbridge across a railway level crossing in Villupuram constructed at a cost of Rs 29 crore and small causeway in Thanjavur. In another function, Palaniswami also laid the foundation stone for constructing a diaphragm work at a cost of Rs 3 crore across Malattaru river in Vellore. He also inaugurated a diaphragm structure built by the public works department across Muktha river in Villupuram district at a cost of Rs 1.90 crore.

According to PWD sources, both the projects will improve irrigation activities in about 500 acres of farmland and also replenish the water bodies in Villupuram and Vellore districts. Ministers K.C. Veeramani, R. Doraikannu, Nilofar Kafeel and chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan were also present during the function at the secretariat.
