Many illegal firework stalls come up in Hyderabad for Diwali

Illegal stalls have sprouted unchecked in about 30 places in Begum Bazaar, Goshamahal, Gowliguda, Malakpet and in the Old City.

Hyderabad: Many vendors have illegally established cracker shops. Locals from the MIG Colony near Bathukammakunta in Amberpet opposed fire cracker stalls coming up on an open ground adjacent to their residences and wrote to the fire department. Following this, the department rejected the application of Shivam Crackers to establish 30 stalls on the open ground.

Despite this, it set up cracker stalls at Shivam Road. Illegal stalls have sprouted unchecked in about 30 places in Begum Bazaar, Goshamahal, Gowliguda, Malakpet and in the Old City.

Approval has been granted for 1,450 firecracker stalls in the city and cantonment. The fire services department rejected about 60 applications based on previous records.

Hyderabad district fire officer M. Srinivas Reddy said most approvals were given to those setting up stalls in playgrounds and open places.

“We rejected a few applications when locals opposed the stalls at their localities,” he said. Cantonment officials have issued approvals for 18 centres. Each centre consists of 25 to 50 stalls. Three approvals were given near JBS, one at Balamrai and 14 at Dhobhighat.
