MLA Karunas gets bail in two cases

Karunas staged the protest demanding the Centre to set up Cauvery Water Management Board.

Chennai: In a big relief to actor MLA S Karunas, two metropolitan magistrate courts, Egmore, on Friday granted bail to him in separate case registered by Nungambakkam and Triplicane police. Two days after the XIV Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore, dismissed custody petition filed by the police seeking to grill S. Karunas, arrested recently for allegedly making uncomplimentary remarks allegedly made against the Chief Minister and police, the court granted bail to him. In another case, both XIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court and XIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore, granted bail to Karunas.

Karunas was arrested on Sunday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, his deputy O Panneerselvam, the state police and a few media houses. While speaking at an agitation in Chennai organised by his outfit Mukkulathor Puli Padai recently. Karunas had made abusive remarks against the chief minister and even dared a police official to remove his uniform and come and fight him. He also issued a threat against the police officer. He was remanded to Vellore Central Prison.

Later, the Triplicane police detained him in connection with another case registered against him for staging protest in Chennai in April this year. Karunas staged the protest demanding the Centre to set up Cauvery Water Management Board.

When bail petitions came up for hearing on Friday, both XIV Metropolitan Magistrate Court and XIII Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore granted bail to Karunas. He is likely to be released from Vellore prison soon.
