Hyderabad: Charminar has been adjudged as special Swachh iconic place nationwide. The award comes on the back of the Greater Hyderabad Municipality’s efforts under the Swacch Bharat Mission of the Union ministry of drinking water and sanitation.
Mr Yugal Kishore Joshi, director, IEC (Information Education Communication) sent a note to GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore, informing him of the award. The GHMC will be presented the award October 2, the fourth anniversary of Swacch Bharat Mission. at New Delhi.
The civic body in a release said the award was bestowed in recognition of the development of the monument and surrounding areas, Swacch events and the pedestrianisation project.
The ministry of drinking water and sanitation said that the historic Charminar was being awarded as the surroundings had been made tourist friendly and sanitation was maintained well.
