Disappointed but will go by it: Chief priest
Thiruvananthapuram: Sabarimala temple chief priest Kandararu Rajeevaru on Friday said the Supreme Court verdict allowing entry of women belonging to all age groups in the hill shrine was disappointing.
The chief priest, however, said he accepted the court verdict. Rajeevaru who presides over the rites and customs of the temple, said he would discuss the issues related to verdict with the Devaswom Board and government.
“But I have no idea how it will be implemented. This is to be decided by the Devaswom Board and the government. As of now there are no facilities for even basic needs of women,” he said.
The verdict has already heralded a major change in the conventions of the temple. However, all other rituals will remain the same.
Former Thanthri Kandararu Mohanaru said the verdict was a disappointment.
“But we will have to abide by the apex court verdict, it is God's will,” he said. “With women of all ages now being allowed, there will have to be more security arrangements in the entire stretch. The Devaswom Board and the government will have to put in place the logistics.”
