Telangana: Jurala shuts gates as inflow tapers down

The withdrawal of the monsoon has started. Rain due to local weather conditions in the catchment areas may add to inflows.

Hyderabad: With inflows plunging early in the day, officials at the Jurala project on Thursday shut down all the crest gates that were opened on September 15 to allow the water to flow to Srisailam.

Officials are now letting out 45,000 cusecs of water through the power house and also drawing for various canals that the Jurala project serves.

There was a steep fall in inflows from Almatti to Srisailam. The outflows of 58,000 cusecs at Srisailam are more than the inflows of 42,000 cusecs.

In a clear violation of Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) orders, both Telangana state and AP are continuing to release water from Srisailam.

While TS Genco is operating the Left Bank power house units (6x150) to the Nagarju-nasagar dam where the level went up to 516 feet, AP is releasing water to the Pothireddypadu head regulator.

Due to this, the water level at Srisailam dam, which had reached 872 feet (full level: 885 ft) in the morning started reducing. Both states are confident that even if they draw water over and above the allocations made by the KRMB, it will be adjusted in the state quotas.

The withdrawal of the monsoon has started. Rain due to local weather conditions in the catchment areas may add to inflows.
