Telangana: IAF trainer plane crashes, pilot safe

Wing Commander Anupam Banerjee said a team had been constituted to ascertain the cause of the crash.

Hyderabad: An IAF Kiran trainer aircraft flown by a cadet from the Hakimpet Air Force Station crashed into a field near Ankireddipally village in Keesara mandal and burst into flames at about noon on Thursday.

The pilot, identified as Aman Pandey, bailed out 2 km before the aircraft crashed. Keesara in Medchal district is 70 km from Hyderabad and 25 km from the Air Force Station.

The fire brigade was called in and the fire was doused. But the aircraft was totally destroyed. No casualties or damage to property on the ground was reported.

Wing Commander Anupam Banerjee said a team had been constituted to ascertain the cause of the crash.

Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat said he had received a call about the crash and the director-general of fire services had been alerted. Two fire engines were deployed to douse the flames. He said the pilot had bailed out of the aircraft in a parachute. He landed safely and was taken away by IAF officials.

“He was in a state of trauma when I spoke to him after the incident, and requested that his identity not be revealed,” Mr Bhagwat said.
