Sacked Chief Secretary Rama Mohana Rao, ex Chennai police chief retire
CHENNAI: P. Rama Mohana Rao, who was unceremoniously removed as the Chief Secretary after I-T raids at his residence and former Chennai Police Commissioner S. George retired from service on Thursday.
Rao, who was kept on waitlist after I-T raids at his premises on December 21 last year, was appointed as director of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Chennai in March this year. He had the ignominy of being the first chief secretary to be raided while in office. Not just his residence, his office at the State Secretariat was also raided during the I-T swoop.
Handpicked by the then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for the top job, Rao had superseded 17 senior officers to clinch the top job. After he was sacked from the post and re-entered service, he was demoted to the rank of additional chief secretary and remained in the cadre till his retirement.
S. George, who was the Chennai Police Commissioner, was posted as DGP (Fire and Rescue) in May and retired from service on Thursday.
