French official bets big on ties with India
Bengaluru: Stressing on the importance of Indo-French economic ties, the President of the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF), Pierre Gattaz, said the ties would let France bring expertise in infrastructure, renewable energy and nuclear energy amongst several other sectors.
In a three city tour of India - Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi, Gattaz led the 60-member delegation comprising small and medium scale enterprises to meet various central and state ministries and industry bodies. Some of the leading corporations of France visited NUMA, a French start up accelerator, to discuss investment opportunities.
The aim of the delegation is to initiate talks between both countries to provide fillip to both economies, with a special interest in the Prime Minister Modi government’s Make in India.
Commenting on his visit, Gattaz said, “Make in India is a great initiative and manufacturing could be a job creating sector. It accounts for 12.55 per cent of the GDP, which Mr Modi wants to go to 17 per cent.”
The visit is a precursor to the official state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to India by the end of the year for a meeting of the International Solar Alliance. The two countries share bilateral trade of $8 billion.
