SCB starts demolition from Mudfort, Ward 3
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) started demolitions of illegal structure on Tuesday and razed constructions at Mudfort, Ambedkar Nagar of Ward No. 3 of the Cantonment area.
The board authorities have estimated that 1,000 structures have been built on the Cantonment nala, which runs a length of 32 km in the area. Most encroachments are on Hasmathpet nala and Picket nala, and areas connecting these nalas regularly get inundated following rains.
On Wednesday, many small rooms in ward 2 faced the axe. SCB CEO Ms Sujatha Gupta said, “We don’t have a record of the total number of structures illegally built on nalas, but a few were identified in colonies such as Anjaiah Nagar, ICRISAT Colony, Amaravathi Colony, SAIL Colony, Dhanalakshmi Colony, Bhavana Colony and others that connects the Hasmathpet nala. Encroachments on 90 per cent of the 32 km nala connectivity have been identified. Most of these are single rooms, sheds or small work places. The drive will be conducted in a phased manner across all the wards.”
Mr Krishank Manne, a resident of SCB said, “We support the drive, however, the SCB, like the GHMC, should provide rehabilitation to those whose houses have been pulled down.”
