Karnataka: Dam levels slightly up but no reason to celebrate yet

On Wednesday KRS had gross storage of 15.064 TMC, Kabini had 12.076 TMC, Harangi had 6.240 TMC and Hemavathi had 7.933 TMC.

Mysuru: Thanks to good rains in the catchment area of four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin, the water levels have slightly improved ever since water flow was temporarily stopped into the river leading to Tamil Nadu on September 20.

But the water levels are much lower compared to the levels on the same day in the previous year.

On Wednesday KRS had gross storage of 15.064 TMC, Kabini had 12.076 TMC, Harangi had 6.240 TMC and Hemavathi had 7.933 TMC.

At Harangi, the water level increased from 2841.32 feet on September 20 to 2851.45 feet on Wednesday as against its capacity of 2,859 feet.

Water level at KRS has increased from 85.20 feet on September 20 to 88.50 feet on Wednesday, as against its capacity of 124.80 feet. Last year on the same day water level was 102.90 feet.

And at Kabini, the water level has increased from 2269.45 feet on September 20 to 2270.80 feet as against its capacity of 2284 feet. Last year on the same day the water level stood at 2274 feet.

At Hemavathi the water level increased from 2874.04 feet on September 20 to 2875.47 feet on Wednesday as against its capacity of 2922 feet. Last year on the same day water level stood at 2893.70 feet.

Ever since the state started releasing water on September 7 to Tamil Nadu following the first verdict of the Supreme Court, at KRS the water level had dropped from 93.73 feet on September 7 to 85.20 feet on September 20, when water was stopped temporarily following widespread agitations in the Cauvery basin. During the same period, the level at Kabini had dropped from 2275.99 feet to 2269.45 feet. At Hemavathi the level had dropped from 2895.18 feet to 2874.04 feet. And at Harangi the level had dropped from 2853.73 feet to 2841.32 feet.
